About
Built for the agent everyone else overlooked.
Most real estate training is built for team leaders, recruiters, and people who want to scale into something bigger. Solo Agent Academy was built for the opposite: the capable, experienced agent who chooses to stay independent — and deserves systems designed for exactly that.
Our mission
The trusted resource center where independent real estate agents come to build, maintain, and strengthen their Solo Edge™ through practical resources, tools, systems, and frameworks that help them build successful businesses while remaining independent.
Why it exists
The industry kept selling solo agents the wrong thing.
For years, the advice handed to independent agents has pointed in one direction: hire, scale, build a team, become a brokerage. Useful, maybe, if that’s what you want. But a huge number of agents don’t want that. They want to stay solo — and run that solo business well.
What they’ve been offered instead is motivation. Pep talks, scripts, and high-energy coaching that fades by Monday afternoon. What was missing was the operational layer: the systems, frameworks, and tools that turn good intentions into a business that runs.
Solo Agent Academy exists to close that gap. Not with hype, and not with another program to sit through — with practical resources built specifically for how an independent agent actually works.
The Independent Agent philosophy
What we believe about going solo.
Independence isn’t a limitation to overcome. It’s a strategy worth building well.
Solo is a choice, not a stepping stone.
You can build a profitable, respected business with a Quiet Team™ of systems instead of staff.
Systems beat hustle.
Calm consistency outperforms chaotic intensity, every quarter and every year.
Authority is built, not claimed.
It comes from showing up with clarity, consistently, until the market remembers you.
Visibility compounds.
Small, steady acts of being seen add up to something a single campaign never could.
Conversations beat scripts.
Trust is earned by guiding people, not performing lines at them.
Burnout is not a badge of honor.
A business that costs you your health was never really working.
The Quiet Team™ philosophy
You don’t need to hire a team. You need to build one quietly.
A traditional team means payroll, management, and overhead — a second job layered on top of the one you already have. The Quiet Team™ is the alternative: a set of systems and tools that handle the work a team would, without the cost or the chaos.
Your CRM follows up. Your planners keep you on plan. Your trackers keep you honest. Your tools do the repeatable work — so you stay the one person who matters most to your clients. This is the Quiet Team™
The founder, in support of the mission
Built by an independent agent who needed it first.
Solo Agent Academy was founded by Melissa Harmel, a Realtor with more than twenty-five years of experience. She built the systems, frameworks, and tools here because she needed them herself — and couldn’t find them anywhere built for an agent working solo.
Tucson
Where it started
Started knowing one person in the city. One of the top 100 agents in all of Tucson by year three.
Anchorage
The rebuild
Rebuilt from a database of industry professionals. Finished 2024 as the number one solo agent for eXp Realty in Alaska.
Northeast Alabama
Right now
Licensed in Alabama in October 2024 and Georgia in November 2025. Started with five names, and is building this one today.
The third rebuild is the reason this site exists. She went looking for the tools she needed to start over smarter, couldn’t find them, and started building them instead — testing each one in a real business, in a market where nobody knew her name.
The story matters only because the mission does. Everything she learned the long way is now organized into resources another independent agent can pick up and use today — without the trial and error, and without the burnout.
